    Sjogrens plaquenil rash

The condition often accompanies other immune system disorders, such as rheumatoid arthritis and lupus. In Sjogren's syndrome, the mucous membranes and moisture-secreting glands of your eyes and mouth are usually affected first — resulting in decreased tears and saliva. Your immune system mistakenly attacks your body's own cells and tissues.

Sep 05, 2016 Is there a "typical" Sjogren's rash? I was diagnosed this past May and have been dealing with itchy, scaly patches as well as hive-like bumps which I suspect may be from sun exposure. Within the past week, however, I've started to develop what I can only describe as red/purplish "freckles" on my torso which are popping up quickly and definitely don't look like the kind of things which will go. Hi, I started taking Plaquenil on June 24th and for the last four or 5 days have had horrible itching. No rash just all over itching. My Rhuemy told me to stop taking it until all itching symptoms were gone, then wait another week and start up again with 1 pill 200mg a day instead of 2. Rashes that are associated with purpura blood spots can represent vasculitis, an inflammation of the blood vessels. Although these rashes are not as common as the ones discussed above, they are important to recognize in Sjögren’s patients and should be seen quickly by a dermatologist. Natalie Wright, MD, FAAD

Certain genes put people at higher risk of the disorder, but it appears that a triggering mechanism — such as infection with a particular virus or strain of bacteria — is also necessary. Scientists aren't certain why some people develop Sjogren's syndrome.

  4. If you cannot take Plaquenil, there are other drugs that can help you. When you see your Rheumatologist, ask her what other drugs are available to treat your Sjogren's. You do not mention if you have stopped taking the Plaquenil. Plaquenil can cause a severe rash and allergic reaction.

Chloroquine - Wikipedia Chloroquine enters the red blood cell by simple diffusion, inhibiting the parasite cell and digestive vacuole. Chloroquine then becomes protonated to CQ2+, as the digestive vacuole is known to be acidic pH 4.7; chloroquine then cannot leave by diffusion.
