Plaquenil hydroxychloroquine is an effective medication for autoimmune conditions and malaria that comes with less side effects than other DMARDs. Otrexup methotrexate is the first-choice treatment for many types of cancer and arthritis, but it has many side effects. Aug 21, 2014 Almost sure she said it was a hydroxychloroquine injection as she said it would help with tiredness and then start me on meds when go back in 6 weeks if all ok. Abit concerned they gave me no paperwork on whatever I was injected with - thought they would of gave me a info leaflet of some sort? Just rediced plaquenil from one tablet twice a day to one tablet once a day. I also take Cimzia injections bi-weekly but that has only been for about 6 months. Jury is still out on that one. Although I do have to give credit to my rheumy because after just a month or two I wanted to be taken off the Cimzia as I didn't think it was really doing.

Is this normal and also had palpitations and ulcers in throat and mouth (no pain from them). I have had Lupus since 2002 and been active in this forum most of that time...while most of us are on Plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) this is the first time I've ever run across mention of it as an injection. Almost sure she said it was a hydroxychloroquine injection as she said it would help with tiredness and then start me on meds when go back in 6 weeks if all ok. Since having the injection tiredness and fog lifted for 2 days back again for 1 day back off again and so on.

You just helped educate me. Thanks. I always thought that plaquenil was not a DMARD, but never bothered to look. I do know that plaquenil is generally considered the least invasive drug, generally prescribed as the first line of treatment. Methotrexate is the most commonly prescribed DMARD, but it does come with the chance of side-effects. Feb 19, 2020 Dosage for Plaquenil. The adult dose of Plaquenil to suppress malaria is 400 mg on the same day each week. The pediatric weekly suppressive dosage is 5 mg/kg of body weight. The adult dose of Plaquenil to treat an acute attack of malaria is an initial dose of 800 mg followed by 400 mg in six to eight hours and 400 mg for two more days. Plaquenil can cause serious side effects when used in high doses for chronic diseases such as RA over the long term. The New Zealand Dermatological Society recommends that to decrease the risk of retina damage, no more than 200mg of Plaquenil should be taken a day, and a dose of 400mg per day should be taken no longer than a few weeks.
