In Sjogren's syndrome, the mucous membranes and moisture-secreting glands of your eyes and mouth are usually affected first — resulting in decreased tears and saliva. Although you can develop Sjogren's syndrome at any age, most people are older than 40 at the time of diagnosis. The condition is much more common in women. Jul 18, 2017 Certainly, some manifestations of Sjögren syndrome, such as annular erythema, are reported to respond positively to hydroxychloroquine.5 For example, a patient with long-term primary Sjögren syndrome developed vasculitis after discontinuing hydroxychloroquine because of retinal toxicity; the authors believed the skin lesions to be caused by interruption of the drug. A few reports suggest that hydroxychloroquine may be effective in treating systemic lupus erythematosus–related vasculitis.

Hi Xtina333-I have sjogrens, was diagnosed with the positive ana and the ssa and ssb tests. I am taking plaquenil for joint pain and stiffness, fatigue, neuropathy and many other symptoms I will not even mention here, too many, too boring! Anyway, within 6 months of starting it I have little fatigue. For many patients with Sjogren's, Plaquenil hydroxychloroquine has long been the go to drug that their doctors prescribe. It is often the first line of attack before other more aggressive therapies are added such as methotrexate or rituximab that have bigger impacts on the immune system. Hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil is commonly used for treating joint pain in Sjögren’s syndrome patients, based in part on its efficacy in treating the joint pain of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus and rheumatoid arthritis.
