    Methotrexate hydroxychloroquine sulfasalazine

I've stopped Sulfa as I was experiencing a bad taste & smell, which may be caused by sulfa. After a while it wasn't as effective and I too was prescribed methotrexate alongside. I'm about to start MTX & am hoping that I wont have side effects with that! The side effects of the methotrexate for me were horrendous (chronic chest infections) and I'm now asthmatic as a result.

Methotrexate MTX and sulfasalazine SASP are widely used inexpensive DMARDs, recently often combined despite no firm evidence of benefit from previous studies. Aim To establish whether a combination of SASP and MTX is superior to either drug alone in patients with rheumatoid arthritis with a suboptimal response to 6 months of SASP. Sulfasalazine is also a potent inhibitor of the activation of the transcription factor NF-κB. Like methotrexate, sulfasalazine has inhibitory effects on AICAR transformylase and, as such, promotes the accumulation of adenosine and its anti-inflammatory actions via the adenosine A 2A receptor. Background/Purpose The combination of methotrexate MTX, sulfasalazine SSZ and hydroxychloroquine HCQ triple therapy is a highly effective and well-tolerated treatment in rheumatoid arthritis RA. While MTX is the cornerstone of most successful combination therapies, not all patients are candidates for, or tolerate, MTX.

I had side effects from MTX, which largely wore off, but haven't had any problems with the Hydroxy or Sulpha. I refuse to take it now even if its my passport to biologic treatment. I started with MTX which worked, but not enough so the others were added in which has been better.

Hydroxychloroquine is sometimes combined with methotrexate for additive benefits for signs and symptoms or as part of a regimen of “triple therapy” with methotrexate and sulfasalazine. Mechanism The mechanism of action of antimalarials in the treatment of patients with rheumatoid arthritis is unknown but is thought to involve changes in antigen presentation or effects on the innate immune system. Methotrexate is often used in combination with other DMARDs. Conventional DMARDs that have been paired with methotrexate include sulfasalazine, hydroxychloroquine, cyclosporine, leflunomide and azathioprine. Taking methotrexate while taking sulfasalazine may increase side effects in your gut and stomach, especially nausea. Disclaimer Our goal is to provide you with the most relevant and current.

Laser Hair Removal & Lupus Has anyone had or is. However it has not effected the hair on my head? Lupus is strange. As 1sam said, I would not recommend it. I would not recommend any type hair removal other than shaving. Waxing can tear thin lupus skin, especially if you take prednisone that makes the skin thinner. Hair remover cream is very harsh on the sensitive lupus skin also.
